President Donald Trump told law enforcement officers on Friday that while Congress will provide them with more resources, the legislative body failed the prior night when it did not pass a health care bill to repeal key aspects of the Affordable Care Act.
Trump's criticism came after Republicans' "skinny repeal" plan went down in the Senate early Friday morning. The president castigated the lawmakers who voted against the repeal bill on Twitter after the vote.
Distancing himself from his Republican colleagues, Trump asked the crowd of law enforcement officers in Long Island whether they can believe that Obamacare remains law after seven years.
"We need more resources from Congress, and we're getting them. Congress is actually opening up and really doing a job," Trump said. "They should have approved health care last night, but you can't have everything. Boy oh boy. They've been working on that one for seven years, can you believe that?"
"The swamp!" he said. "But we'll get it done, we're gonna get it done."
Trump also repeated his call to let Obamacare continue to collapse.
"You know I said from the beginning, let Obamacare implode and then do it," Trump said. "I turned out to be right."
Trump tweeted early Friday morning that senators who voted against the bill "let the American people down." He also called for Obamacare to implode.
