Artist Alex Gardega was so angry about the "Fearless Girl" statue that he decided to create an urinating dog statue to place next to it.
Gardega named the canine statue "Pissing Pug," and created it purposefully to take direct aim at "Fearless Girl," the New York Post reported.
"This is corporate nonsense," Gardega said of "Fearless Girl." Gardega added that "Fearless Girl" is only a publicity stunt for the financial firm that commissioned to have it installed.
"Fearless Girl" was commissioned by Boston-based financial services firm State Street Global Advisers, and was placed directly in front of the iconic "Charging Bull" statue on Wall Street. The "Fearless Girl" has been praised by politicians and activists as a symbol of feminism.
"It has nothing to do with feminism, and it is disrespect to the artist that made the bull," Gardega said. "That bull had integrity."
Gardega said he purposely crafted the "Pissing Pug" poorly, just to mock "Fearless Girl."
"I decided to build this dog and make it crappy to downgrade the statue, exactly how the girl is a downgrade on the bull," Gardega said.
Arturo Di Modica, the artist who sculpted the "Charging Bull," has expressed his displeasure at the "Fearless Girl" but hasn't commented on Gardega's newest addition to the area.
Many people who passed by the new statue thought it was misogynistic.
"That’s an a–hole move. You call this art?" one woman told the New York Post as she kicked the dog.
Gardega claimed that he is "pro-feminism" and doesn't have anything against the artist who created "Fearless Girl." After Gardega explained his reasons for creating the "Pissing Pug," some came to understand his point of view.
"I respect his opinion . . . and that’s really cool," tourist Pam Guadarrama said.
