Chaffetz: Released Benghazi Emails a 'Smidgen' of 25,000 Documents

'The White House has hand selected these'

Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R., Utah.) said he knows for certain that the 100 emails released by the White House today are a "smidgen" of the available documents on Benghazi Wednesday on FNC.

Specifically, the Utah congressman cited a September 12 email quoted by Rep. Trey Gowdy (R., S.C.) in Ambassador Gregory Hicks' May 8 hearing as an example of an unclassified document that the White House will not release for fear of further embarrassment:

JASON CHAFFETZ: Look one of the documents that I think should be released, that the speaker asked for last week, that my colleague Trey Gowdy had highlighted last week, is something done on the 12th, literally less than 24 hours after the attack, Beth Jones then says to most of the senior leadership at the State Department, she says definitively, that she told the Libyan ambassador that it was Ansar al-Sharia, Islamic extremists, that committed this terrorist attack. She doesn't use the word terrorist attack, but she does use Ansar al-Sharia which does have Al-Qaeda ties. Why doesn't the White House, if they're going to be open and transparent, if it's ok to release these 100 documents, release that one? In fact -

GRETA VAN SUSTEREN: Why didn't they release them?

JASON CHAFFETZ: Because they're embarrassing. This is not the White House saying "look these are classified," we're talking about unclassified documents, and still more than eight months later they won't release them.
