Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s woes continued Friday as her congressional primary opponent received a big endorsement.

Democracy for America, a grassroots progressive PAC, accused the Florida congresswoman of being sympathetic to wealthy interests in a statement released by the group’s chairman, Jim Dean. Democracy for America stated it will support Wasserman Schultz's challenger, Tim Canova, "because he has spent his life challenging the power of Wall Street banks, multinational corporations, and the systemic political corruption that keeps them profitable at the expense of everyone else."

"If Democrats are going to be the party that confronts the wealthy and powerful who dominate our political process and enable growing income inequality, we need political revolutionaries like Tim Canova in the U.S. Congress," the statement read.

This is the latest in a string of major endorsements for Canova, including one from Bernie Sanders. In an Sunday interview, Sanders said Canova’s views are "much closer" to his than Wasserman Schultz’s.

Canova released a statement following the Democracy for America endorsement, saying "DFA members in our district are overwhelming in support of our campaign. They understand that Debbie Wasserman Schultz has failed us by standing with Republicans and corporate interests against the people of South Florida." Canova said the "district deserves a nominee who will stand with working Americans, not wealthy elites."

Canova’s campaign has received a boost from the attention received due to these endorsements. In the week since Sanders’ endorsement, Canova estimated he received several hundred thousand dollars in donations.
