Hagel nomination approaches moment of decision as questions raised about public appearances

February 20, 2013

Questions regarding secretary of defense nominee Chuck Hagel's public statements continue to mount as the Senate's return from recess looms.

Sens. McCain (R., Az.) and Graham (R., SC) suggested last weekend that they plan to allow Hagel's nomination to come to an up-or-down vote after the Senate returns from its recess next week. Yet concerns regarding contemporaneous accounts of Hagel speeches at Rutgers University in 2007 and 2010 have not subsided.
