Rep. Todd Akin’s (R., Mo.) controversial remarks about "legitimate rape" have drawn the ire and condemnation of politicians on both sides of the isle.
Akin's not the only one to make political mistakes when talking about rape, however. Vice President Joe Biden has a history of falsely and maliciously accusing Republicans of being responsible for rape.
Here are three times Biden has blamed the GOP for rape.
1. 200 Pound Man
During a speech in Philadelphia last year, Biden wished that Republicans "had some notion" of what it was like to have "a 200 pound man standing over you telling you to submit."
BIDEN: "I wish these guys that thought it was temporary, I wish they had some notion what it’s like on the other side of a gun or a 200 pound man standing over you telling you to submit. Folks, it matters. It matters!"
2. Rapes are up because of Republican economic policies
While touting President Obama’s "Jobs Act," at a Washington D.C. rally last year, Biden argued "rapes are up" because of Republican economic policies.
BIDEN: "In many cities, the result has been—and it’s not unique—murder rates are up, robbery rates are up, rapes are up."
3. Rape, murder, burglary: All the GOP's fault
When confronted by a reporter about his controversial rape rhetoric, Biden doubled down.
BIDEN: "Don’t screw around with me. … Listen to me. … I said rape was up three times in Flint, there are the numbers, go look at the numbers. Murder’s up, rape is up, and burglary’s up. … Murder will continue to rise, rape will continue to rise, all crimes will continue to rise."
