Steve Mnuchin confirmed Wednesday that Donald Trump has nominated him to be secretary of the Treasury, and Wilbur Ross said the president-elect has tapped him to head the Commerce Department.
Host Joe Kernen asked Mnuchin and Ross if they could confirm their nominations on CNBC's Squawk Box.
"We can, indeed," Mnuchin said. "We're thrilled to be here and we're thrilled to work for the president-elect and honored to have these positions."
Mnuchin was Trump's campaign finance chairman and has been an adviser to Trump during the campaign on business and economics. A long-time Wall Street banker, Mnuchin is the CEO of the hedge fund Dune Capital Management and has been an executive producer on hit films, such as American Sniper and Mad Max: Fury Road.
Ross is a turnaround specialist and has been involved in reviving struggling textiles, auto parts, coal, and steel companies by buying and restructuring them. The billionaire investor is estimated to be worth nearly $3 billion. Ross is a former Democrat but has been a long time Trump supporter. He was involved with the Sago Mine in West Virginia when 12 miners died in an explosion in 2006.
Mnuchin has donated to both Republican and Democratic political candidates in the past while Ross used to be a Democrat.
