Spicer Sets the Record Straight on Off-Camera White House Briefings

July 19, 2017

White House press secretary Sean Spicer appeared on CBN News on Wednesday to "set the record straight" on why press briefings have been held off-camera recently.

"Faith Nation" co-host David Brody asked Spicer how he decides whether a briefing will be on-camera or off-camera.

"I think for a lot of folks they're more interested in getting the clip to, you know, to put on the Internet, to put on their news," Spicer said. "And we're interested in making sure that we communicate with the American people, that we give the press the opportunity to get their questions answered."

Spicer explained that the frequent briefings are held to communicate with the public and the press. He said that because of this, it is more effective to avoid a visual spectacle.

"We do want to make sure that we do do things that are informative and helpful to get the president's message out, to answer the key questions," Spicer said, emphasizing that their decision stems from the need to effectively communicate the president's message.

"So on days when [Trump's] talking, in particular, we're going to make sure that we let his voice carry the day," Spicer said.
