House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R., La.) has been moved from the intensive care unit but still remains in serious condition almost a month after he was shot on June 14 during a Republican congressional baseball practice in Alexandria, Va.

The 51-year-old congressman underwent surgery at MedStar Washington Hospital Center last week and is being treated for infection, an official familiar with Scalise's situation told Time.

The June shooting occurred days before the Congressional Baseball Game was set to occur, and despite the shooting the game went on as scheduled. Although the Democrats won, they gave the trophy to the Republican team to place in Scalise's office.

Bipartisan leaders in the House of Representatives decided to delay the official House photo for the 115th Congress until Scalise was well enough to be included, the Hill reported.

Scalise was shot in the hip and the bullet "tore into his blood vessels, bones and internal organs," Time reported. Four others at the baseball practice were injured when the gunman opened fire on the practice at an Alexandria, Va. ballpark.
