President Obama referenced an "independent, nonpartisan" Tax Policy Center study about Mitt Romney's tax proposal in a campaign speech Wednesday -- a study co-authored by a former White House staffer.
Obama emphasized the report had not been put together by White House staff.
Adam Looney, one of the study's authors, was a senior economist for the Council of Economic Advisers and an aide in the Treasury Department.
The Weekly Standard reported that one of the other authors of the study, William Gale, has visited the White House 12 times since Obama has been in office, and attended a 2009 event with Sec. Tim Geithner.
