Ed Schultz slammed Sen. Joni Ernst (R., Iowa), the Republican choice to respond to President Obama's State of the Union address, for being pro-life, pro-gun, and generally disagreeing with Obama on his MSNBC show Tuesday.
Schultz criticized her opposition to raising the minimum wage, support for partially privatizing Social Security, and desire to eliminate federal agencies like the IRS and the EPA. The MSNBC host took issue with nearly all of the positions Ernst holds on key policy questions, finding them inappropriate for the person chosen to respond to Obama's address.
"Joni Ernst is another denier," Schultz said of Ernst's position on global warming. "Ernst wants to repeal Obamacare. She opposes same-sex marriage. She supports a personhood amendment for unborn fetuses ... The National Rifle Association has given Ernst an A rating."
Schultz then spoke for the American public saying "Americans are not looking for a partisan hack to degrade and dismiss the President of the United States."
"The country wants Congress to work with President Obama," he said. "Ernst is just another Republican against everything the President wants to accomplish."
