McAuliffe: Cheney Was Drunk During Hunting Accident

And he wrote about it in his book

Virginia gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe used to claim former Vice President Dick Cheney was drunk during his hunting accident, in video from a 2006 event BuzzFeed posted Monday:

McAULIFFE: You know Cheney, the guy who went out hunting? 'Oh, I only had one beer.' Folks, I'm Irish, there's no such thing as one beer. He was cracking them all afternoon. I know he was drunk because I know it was a mistake. The one thing you never do is shoot your fundraiser. Your political adviser, your wife, whatever--but you don't ever shoot your money man.

But McAuliffe did not make the joke just once. The gubernatorial candidate also made the joke again and cited as an effervescent crowd pleaser in his book:

"First, the story was that not a drop of alcohol had been consumed, then it was "a beer." They couldnt get their story straight, which reminded the American people of all the whoppers this administration has told them." [...]

"All I have to do to get the crowds laughing is mention Cheney and Hunting. That gets them right there. Then I mention the cockamamie story that Cheney only had "a beer" that day.

"C'mon folks, I'm Irish" I tell the crowd. "If you crack one, you crack six. Look, he's out in the woods. He's got his camo gear on. He's all jacked up. You think he only had one beer?"

I give it a minute, and then add: "Let's be honest: The man was tanked!"
