Kaine Can't Say if Clinton Will Hold Press Conference

September 4, 2016

Sen. Tim Kaine (D., Va.) couldn't say for sure if Hillary Clinton will hold a press conference during an interview Sunday on This Week.

Hillary Clinton's running mate talked with ABC's Martha Raddatz about Clinton's lack of press conferences. She hasn't held one in more than 270 days.

Her lack of access to the press has been criticized by Donald Trump and multiple media outlets. Raddatz asked Kaine if Clinton will break her pattern and start answering questions from reporters.

"Our campaign reporters and others say she doesn't really answer that many questions. Is this going to change?" Raddatz asked.

Kaine defended Clinton, saying she has done plenty of interviews.

"I have to push back on the notion she hasn't done a press conference. She gave a speech to the National Association of Black Journalists within the last month, where there were also Hispanic journalists ...  She did a press conference there and members of mainstream media outlets, television networks, asked her questions," Kaine said.

Unsatisfied with Kaine's answer, Raddatz asked if we will see a press conference from Clinton anytime soon, as the journalist event wasn't a true presser.

"So can we expect a press conference, yes or no?" Raddatz asked.

Unable to confirm Kaine said, "Um, there's been one in the last month." He then added, "You're going to see Hillary very, very accessible to the press."

The last time Clinton held a press conference was on December 4, 2015 in Iowa.

Republican nominee Donald Trump has held 17 press conferences in 2016.
