Montana’s incumbent senator is helping to raise money for a long-shot Senate candidate affiliated with groups that explicitly advocate overthrowing the American capitalist system.
Sen. Jon Tester (D., Mont.) revealed to CNN on Tuesday that he is fundraising for Amanda Curtis, who jumped into the race less than two weeks ago.
"Tester's spokeswoman Marnee Banks confirmed that he has been helping Curtis fundraise and plans to continue to make calls on her behalf," CNN reported.
Tester has worked to position himself as a moderate, even staking out positions against his party’s leadership on occasion. In Curtis, he is backing what critics describe as a radical leftist.
The Washington Free Beacon last week reported on Curtis’ deep ties to avowedly anti-capitalist groups such as the Industrial Workers of the World.
