House GOP Releases New Video of What Pelosi Speakership Could Look Like

BY:

The House Republican Conference has released a new video depicting what Congress might look like if Democrats were to gain control of the House of Representatives and House Minority Leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) became speaker after the 2018 midterm elections.

The "#WhatsAtStake" video notes a variety of Republican accomplishments it argues Democrats would roll back. The video mentions tax cuts, bonuses many workers received from tax cuts, job growth, America's stronger military, and safer borders that have resulted since Republicans took control of Congress.

A clip of Pelosi is included in which she contrasts the GOP push for tax cuts, expressing the need to raise taxes.

"[An NRCC ad] said that you would like to institute a single-payer health-care program and raise taxes," Politico‘s Jake Sherman asked Pelosi in May.

"The second part is accurate," Pelosi says laughing.

The House Republican Conference highlights the similarities between Pelosi and democratic socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.), showing a clip of Sanders expressing support for tax hikes.

The video also notes problems with the Democratic agenda when it comes to border security, veterans' issues, and the military. It features a reporter talking about Democrats' call to abolish U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), argues a Democratic Party-controlled Congress would not ensure proper oversight over the embattled Department of Veterans Affairs, and says the military could go back to lower levels of readiness it suffered under sequestration.

The video is part of a new Better Off Now messaging effort that differentiates the Democratic and Republican agendas.

"The new video from the House Republican Conference, which highlights all that Democrats want to take away, keeps Democrat messaging on defense by reminding the American people of the stark contrast between the Democratic and GOP agendas," a House GOP aide told the Washington Free Beacon.
