The campaign arm of House Democrats has raised a record sum of money for the month of August in a non-election year.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee brought in $6.26 million last month, compared to $4.15 million for August 2015, the last non-election year, NBC News reported Monday.

The DCCC has raised more than its Republican counterpart each of the previous three months, though the National Republican Congressional Committee has not yet released its fundraising numbers for August.

Democrats have been in the minority in the House of Representatives since the 2010 elections and are hoping to make big gains next year. Overall, the DCCC has raised $72.46 million in 2017, and $31.26 million of that was from online fundraising.

DCCC spokesman Tyler Law lauded the committee's fundraising numbers and attacked House Republicans.

"With the House in play, another record-breaking month of fundraising for the DCCC is a clear sign that the grassroots energy behind House Democrats is constantly growing stronger," Law told NBC News. "Given Speaker [Paul] Ryan's failure to govern with unified Republican control of Washington, it's understandable that vulnerable House Republicans are opting for retirement while we are recruiting incredible candidates deep into the map."

While the DCCC has posted big fundraising numbers, the Democratic National Committee has struggled to bring in money this year, losing out to the Republican National Committee by wide margins.
