CNN’s Ashleigh Banfield asked Rep. Charlie Rangel (D., N.Y.) about a possible deal to end the government shutdown and instead of answering Banfield’s question, Rangel resorted to name calling, comparing Republicans to Confederates.
"The same way they fought as Confederates, they want to bring down the government and reform it," Rangel said.
Banfield expressed shock and asked Rangel to clarify his remarks.
"Well, I can tell you this: if you take a look at the states that they control, take a look at the Dixiecrats, see how they went over to the Republican Party," he said.
