Sunday night's CNN town halls featuring struggling presidential candidates Montana governor Steve Bullock (D.) and New York City mayor Bill de Blasio (D.) drew lower ratings than rivals Fox News and MSNBC.
The two candidates failed to crack half a million viewers during back-to-back appearances on CNN, according to the Washington Examiner. Bullock's audience was 429,000 viewers, and de Blasio's was 376,000. Fox News's programming drew a total of 873,000 viewers during the town halls, while MSNBC's programming drew 664,000.
At the town halls, Bullock flatly denied he would consider dropping out to run for a Senate seat, and de Blasio addressed the aftermath of the death of Eric Garner in New York City.
De Blasio's appearance was the fifth-least watched town hall of the presidential primary. Rep. Tim Ryan (D., Ohio), businessman Andrew Yang, author Marianne Williamson, and former presidential candidate Rep. Seth Moulton (D., Mass.) all had fewer viewers.
Neither de Blasio nor Bullock look likely to qualify for the third presidential debate held next month, despite the fact that both qualified for the second debate. Bullock has repeatedly blasted the Democratic National Committee for its debate rules, saying they allowed billionaire Tom Steyer to try to buy his way into the debate.
Earlier this month, de Blasio appeared on Sean Hannity's Fox News show where he clashed with Hannity on several issues over the course of the 40-minute interview. He made the appearance despite his attacks on Rupert Murdoch, who owns Fox News.
Last week saw Moulton and Gov. Jay Inslee (D., Wash.) announce their withdrawals from the race for the Democratic nomination due to poor polling numbers and lack of donors.
