CNN: Trump Will Announce Pence as VP Pick Today

July 15, 2016

CNN reported that presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump will confirm Indiana Gov. Mike Pence as his running mate on Friday.

CNN reporter Sara Murray said Trump and Pence would not appear jointly until Saturday.

Trump announced Thursday he would postpone his vice presidential announcement previously scheduled for Friday in the wake of the Nice, France, terrorist attack that left more than 80 dead.

The Republican National Convention, where Trump will be formally nominated, begins Monday in Cleveland, Ohio.

The full exchange is below.

ANDERSON COOPER: CNN has learned that the Trump campaign will make the announcement sometime today. CNN’s Sara Murray is outside Trump Tower. So, Sara, it seems like there will be some sort of announcement today after all?

SARA MURRAY: That’s right, Anderson. That’s what we’re hearing is that Donald Trump will announce that Mike Pence is the pick today, but they will not appear jointly until tomorrow morning, likely in New Jersey. Now, there was an element of surprise, of course, that was already gone. CNN confirmed yesterday that Mike Pence was the pick, and today they have to file the paperwork to withdraw from the Indiana governor’s race, so there was going to be an element of surprise that was lost at any rate today, no matter how they sort of handled this.

So it looks like the Trump campaign will confirm that Mike Pence is the pick at some point today, and then tomorrow they will have their joint event that was postponed today in the wake of the terror attack in Nice.
