CNN Mocks Clinton: When Your Spin is You're Not a Direct Target of an FBI Investigation, You're Losing

August 13, 2015

National Journal’s Ron Fournier said Thursday on CNN that when a campaign spins that it is not an FBI target, it's losing.

"Yesterday we had Hillary Clinton’s chief spokesperson actually argue that the central core of her argument and the spin document she put out is Hillary Clinton is not a target in the investigation," Fournier said. "When you argue that technically your candidate is not the target of the investigation, you're losing."

The Clinton campaign released a statement that defended Clinton’s private email server while as Secretary of State. The statement says that Clinton is not the target of the FBI investigation into her private server.

Associated Press reporter Julie Pace said that Clinton is a weak candidate because voters don’t trust her.

"She’s a weak candidate in the sense that they don't trust her and don't think she understands her problems," Pace said. "Those kind of factors really can be damaging throughout a long campaign."

Fournier said three words can describe Clinton’s problems.

"Trust, trust, trust. If you are Joe Biden and you take a serious look at this, you have to give pause," Fournier said.
