Rep. Adam Schiff (D., Calif.) might be running for president, at least according to MSNBC host Chris Matthews.
Matthews said on Wednesday that he had "heard" that Schiff was running for president in 2020, adding his name to the already long list of Democrats rumored to be interested in doing so.
Schiff has attracted national attention for his role as ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee. From that position, he has been an outspoken critic of the Trump administration and a major proponent of the ongoing investigation into possible ties between President Donald Trump's campaign and Russian officials.
On his Wednesday evening broadcast, Matthews was discussing the large number of Democrats who might run for president in 2020.
"Make a list of how many people you think, men and women, are running for the presidency next time, in 2020, Democrats," Matthews said. "It was 18 we came up with."
"Adam Schiff is on the list," Matthews said. "I heard something I hadn't heard before. The guy's running for president."
It is not apparent from where Matthews heard the rumor.
