Carson: Khan Family Should Apologize to Trump

Donald Trump surrogate Dr. Ben Carson said Wednesday to CNN’s Wolf Blitzer that the Khan family should apologize to the Republican nominee.

Carson and Blitzer discussed Trump’s recent reaction to the Khan family and other "Gold Star" families, who are looking for an apology from Trump.

Khizr and Ghazala Khan, the parents of Humayun Khan, a U.S. Army captain who was killed by a suicide bomber in Iraq in 2004, spoke at the Democratic National Convention last week. Khizr harshly criticized Trump’s proposed Muslim ban while Ghazala stood by his side.

Trump responded to the Khans’ criticism by suggesting that Ghazala, the mother and wife, was not allowed to speak, causing critics to say the business mogul was stereotyping Muslims.

Blitzer asked Carson in an interview Wednesday afternoon if Trump should apologize to the Khans for his comments.

"I think, you know, we should clearly move on. I don’t think it would be harmful if they apologized to him and he apologized to them, but I don’t see that happening," Carson said.

Blitzer appeared confused and asked, "Why should they apologize to him?"

"Well, for one thing, you know, if you accuse someone of something that’s not true, it usually is a reasonable thing to acknowledge that," Carson said.
