Bernstein: 'Hillary is in Trouble Because She Has Done Damage to Herself'

August 13, 2015

The Washington Post's Carl Bernstein said Hillary Clinton had "done damage to herself" through her use of a private email server at the State Department Thursday on CNN, noting the national security implications of her sending classified emails were damning.

"Hillary is in trouble because she has done damage to herself," Bernstein said. "Hillary's server shenanigans, for lack of a better word, are going to continue to plague her because what happened is real, and what happened is that classified information, which should have remained classified, went across this server, and we don't know how and whether it was compromised."

Bernstein sad Clinton's own rhetoric about prosecuting people who had leaked classified documents was telling.

"But if you look at Hillary Clinton's own comments about people being prosecuted for breaching national security through leaks and through their servers being inadequate ... it's a problem, and it's not going to go away," he said.

The journalist attempted to equate Clinton's private server to one Jeb Bush kept while Florida Governor, noting Bush had discussed National Guard. Unlike Clinton's server with "Top Secret" information, National Guard movements are not considered classified.

"Hillary's server shenanigans are going to continue to plague her because what happened is real. And what happened is that classified information, which should have remained classified, went across this server and we don't know how and whether it was compromised," Bernstein said.

"The concern is obvious," New Day host Chris Cuomo said.

"It's a problem and it's not going to go away," Bernstein said.
