President Donald Trump on Thursday gave a noticeably brief response to a reporter's question about building a wall on the Mexican border, and seemed to knock Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos for giving a "long and very diplomatic answer" to the same question.
ABC's chief Washington correspondent, Jonathan Karl, asked Santos during a joint press conference with Trump whether he agrees with Trump's plan to halt the illegal drug flow into the United States with a border wall. Santos appeared to dodge the issue and instead emphasized international cooperation in the fight against drug trafficking.
After Santos' answer, Trump commented on the issue.
"And that was a long and very diplomatic answer to your question," Trump said to Karl. "I will say it a little bit shorter: Walls work. Just ask Israel."
"They work. Believe me, they work," the president added.
