An imprisoned Palestinian leader and convicted terrorist who is leading a hunger strike was allegedly caught eating cookies and candy in a video released by the Israel Prison Service.

The video appears to show Marwan Barghouti eating on two separate occasions, according to Israeli media reports.

Barghouti, who is serving five life sentences in Israeli prison for helping murder five people and launch a failed suicide bombing, explained his decision to lead a hunger strike of Palestinian prisoners in a New York Times op-ed published last month.

In the video, Barghouti can be seen walking into his bathroom with an object in his hands on two separate occasions. The Israel Prison Service said that Barghouti ate two cookies, a chocolate bar, and a package of salt between the two instances.

The incidents occurred on April 27 and May 5, according to the Israel Prison Service.

It is unclear how Barghouti received the food. Unnamed sources have claimed the food was bait to get the Palestinian leader to break his strike. Essa Qaraqaa, chairman of the PLO Commission for Prisoners, disputed the video's legitimacy and accused the Israelis of playing games to pressure the prisoner.

Barghouti is one of 1,500 Palestinian prisoners who began the hunger strike about a month ago. Around 800 prisoners remain on strike, according to the Israel Prison Service. Some Israeli officials have said they will bring in foreign doctors to make prisoners eat to prevent their health from deteriorating further.
