Iranian authorities claimed on Tuesday that the regime's intelligence services had arrested five foreign spies alleged to be working for the American CIA and Israeli Mossad, according to reports in the country’s state-controlled press.

Iran's Ministry of Intelligence claimed the alleged spies were seeking information about the country’s "nuclear, political, economic, military, and infrastructural projects with the aim of sabotaging" these sectors, according to Iran’s semi-official Mehr News Agency.

The announcement comes on the heels of the July execution of Reza Asgari, a onetime member of Iran's defense ministry who was arrested by Iranian authorities and charged with providing the CIA with key details about the Islamic Republic's military activities.

Iran in July also sentenced a second alleged spy to death. He is accused of providing the Mossad and CIA with information about Iranian general Qassem Soleimani, who was killed earlier this year by a U.S. drone strike.

The State Department declined to address Washington Free Beacon requests for comment.

Israel has not yet commented on the veracity of Iran’s claims.
