An American official on Tuesday revealed which allied nation originally shared the classified information that President Donald Trump discussed with Russian officials last week.

Israeli intelligence officials reportedly shared the information with their American counterparts, according to the New York Times.

Israeli officials did not confirm the report that they were behind the original intelligence collection, but the Israeli Ambassador to America Ron Dermer reaffirmed a strong relationship between the nations in a statement to the Times.

"Israel has full confidence in our intelligence-sharing relationship with the United States and looks forward to deepening that relationship in the years ahead under President Trump," Dermer said.

Previously, news outlets in Israel have reported on American intelligence officials cautioning Israel on sharing information with the United States due to suspicion of a relationship between the Trump administration and the Kremlin.

The sharing of classified material with the Russian foreign minister and ambassador to the United States was first reported Monday by the Washington Post, and was seemingly confirmed by President Trump with a Tuesday morning tweet saying he had the "absolute right" to share information with Russia.
