A former business associate of Hunter Biden is cooperating with House Republicans in an investigation into the Biden family's foreign business dealings, according to Oversight Committee chairman James Comer (R., Ky.).
Eric Schwerin, who worked at Rosemont Seneca Partners, a private equity firm co-founded by Hunter Biden, has emerged as one of the "key witnesses in our investigation of Joe Biden's involvement in his family’s international and domestic business schemes," Comer told Just the News on Thursday.
Schwerin's "attorneys and my counsel are communicating on a regular basis," Comer said. "I feel confident that he's going to work with us and provide us with the information that we have requested."
Hunter Biden and Joe Biden's brother James, meanwhile, failed to submit requested documents by a Wednesday deadline, and Comer may move to subpoena both men, the New York Post reported. A spokesperson said the Oversight Committee, however, has "received correspondence from the attorneys representing Hunter Biden and James Biden," according to the Post.
Comer said that Schwerin's cooperation is "going to lead the way in helping more people come forward and work with us."
Comer and his committee are investigating Joe Biden and his family's business dealings during his time in office. "The Biden family business model is built on Joe Biden’s political career and connections," Comer said earlier this month.
Schwerin made 27 known White House visits during Biden’s time as vice president, the Washington Examiner reported.
Comer told Schwerin in a February note that he was "identified" as "a close personal and professional associate of Robert Hunter Biden."
"Evidence shows you communicated with Hunter Biden and others regarding relevant companies, investments, and transactions," Comer said.
