In her first year as vice president, Kamala Harris demanded that the intelligence community launch an internal investigation into "gender-biased language" in national security reports after she accused her personal intelligence briefer of using such language, the Washington Post reported Thursday.

While listening to a briefing on a classified personality profile of a female foreign leader, Harris took issue with the female intelligence officer's alleged use of "gender-biased language." Harris requested an internal review that sparked a sweeping investigation into whether analysts across the intelligence community routinely used such language in their reports.

"Harris was so concerned that she asked intelligence agencies to train their analysts to avoid any such bias in the future. She also requested more reporting from the intelligence community on gender issues and sexual violence around the world," David Ignatius, the Post’s associate editor and columnist, wrote in a Thursday op-ed after interviewing more than a half-dozen current or former Harris officials.

Harris dropped personal, one-on-one briefings soon after the incident, according to the Post.
