‘A Comeback of Historic Proportions’: Trump Named Time Magazine’s 2024 ‘Person of the Year’

December 12, 2024

Time magazine named President-elect Donald Trump its 2024 "Person of the Year" Thursday, recognizing his political "comeback of historic proportions."

"For marshaling a comeback of historic proportions, for driving a once-in-a-generation political realignment, for reshaping the American presidency, and altering America's role in the world, Donald Trump is Time's 2024 Person of the Year," the magazine wrote.

Trump also won the title in 2016 after claiming his first White House victory.

"Since he began running for President in 2015, perhaps no single individual has played a larger role in changing the course of politics and history than Trump," Time magazine wrote. "Trump is once again at the center of the world, and in as strong a position as he has ever been."

This past year, Trump navigated a tumultuous election season that included a last-minute change of his opponent, numerous indictments, and multiple assassination attempts on his life. He won the presidential election in an electoral landslide, winning all seven swing states; he was also the first Republican in 20 years to win the popular vote.

"Trump’s political rebirth is unparalleled in American history. He has realigned American politics, remaking the GOP and leaving Democrats reckoning with what went awry," the magazine wrote.

The other Time finalists this year included failed Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris, tech billionaire Elon Musk, who was named "Person of the Year" in 2021, Joe Rogan, and Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
