A recently departed Obama White House staffer has joined the political advocacy group run by billionaire environmentalist Tom Steyer.
Bobby Whithorne, until last month the White House’s assistant press secretary, confirmed to Politico on Wednesday that he is the new press secretary for NextGen Climate.
Steyer provides the lion’s share of funding for the group, which he has used to support Democratic congressional candidates who share his radical environmentalist views.
Steyer has also funneled money through NextGen to Democrats who do not necessarily share his views but are crucial to maintaining the party’s Senate majority.
It was not immediately clear whether Whithorne would continue to echo the president’s distaste for money in politics while working for a billionaire who has pledged to flood federal elections with cash.
