House Dem: Stop ‘Whining’ About Cancelled Insurance Plans

Rep. Anna Eshoo (D., Calif.) said Republicans should stop "whining" about cancelled insurance plans due to Obamacare Wednesday during a hearing to debate a proposal by Rep. Bill Cassidy (R., La.) authorizing health insurers to continue offering current group health insurance coverages.

"Your plan is whining," Eshoo said at the House Energy and Commerce Committee. "Your plan is suing the president and using taxpayer dollars. Now come on. We're passing some good legislation out of the committee today, and this committee is too important to be taking up what the whiners did on Saturday Night Live years ago."

Eshoo called Cassidy's proposal a "lousy plan," asking melodramatically "what century do you want to go back to." She then remarked that Obamacare was not "perfect," not mentioning that President Obama had falsely promised dozens of times that anyone who liked their current health care plan would keep it under the law.

"What you have on the table here is part of the past," she said. "I don't think the American people are with you on this at all. I really don't. Is the ACA perfect? Of course not. No legislation is, because it's the product of human beings."

The National Review reported:

Representative Cory Gardner (R., Colo.), who is challenging Senator Mark Udall in the 2014 midterms, reminded Eshoo that "335,000 Coloradans had their health insurance plans cancelled thanks to Obamacare" even though President Obama had promised that people could keep their plans if they liked them.

"They’re not whiners," Gardner said. "They’re not some whiners on Saturday Night Live."

Cassidy, who is also challenging a vulnerable Democratic Senator, Mary Landrieu, accused Eshoo of "smirking in Congress" while calling people who lost their plans whiners.
