The White House was forced to revise a previous statement that President Obama first learned about Hillary Clinton’s private email account last week when the news broke.
The president said in an interview with CBS News that he did not know about Clinton’s account before then.
Press Secretary Josh Earnest corrected the statement, saying that the president must have known about Clinton’s private account because he had emailed that account for four years while Clinton served as his Secretary of State.
The White House has been trying its best to distance itself from Clinton and the email saga. Earnest previously said Clinton may have violated the Federal Records Act and certainly did not comply with a directive from the Obama administration to use official government accounts to conduct business on.
Earnest did maintain that Obama was unaware of the private email server in Clinton’s home.
He also said that the President did not know that Clinton used her private email address exclusively for State Department communications.
