The Image CNN and the New York Times Don't Want You to See

Charlie Hebdo’s first issue following the terrorist attack on its staff last week in Paris features a defiant cover.

The cover shows Muslim Prophet Mohammed holding a sign that reads, "Je suis Charlie" ("I am Charlie"). "Je suis Charlie" became a unifying phrase among French citizens and the rest of the world. The words above the cartoon read "All is forgiven."

Three million copies will be printed in 16 different languages on Wednesday.

Several news outlets, including CNN, the New York Times, NPR, and NBC News declined to publish the new cover on their websites or in print. Those publications also declined to publish previous covers of Charlie Hebdo.

The issue is the first to be published since the shooting attack last week that killed 12 people. The attacks were carried out to avenge the prophet for Charlie Hebdo’s depiction of him on previous covers.
