SNL Star Burns Hillary Clinton at Luncheon Honoring Chelsea

April 25, 2017

"Saturday Night Live" star Vanessa Bayer's joke at the expense of Hillary Clinton may have bombed in front of a liberal audience over the weekend, but it certainly played well with much of the rest of the country.

At Variety's "Power of Women" luncheon in New York City on Friday that honored, among others, Chelsea Clinton, Bayer had a brutal dig against her mother for failing to win the presidency against Donald Trump.

"OK, we have some pretty amazing honorees this afternoon: Jessica Chastain, Gayle King, Blake Lively, Audra McDonald, Tina Knowles, Shari Redstone, and Chelsea Clinton. And they all have one thing in common: None of their moms are president," Bayer said.

As the honorees tilted toward the left of the political spectrum, the joke did not go over well with the audience. Groans could be heard.

Hillary Clinton's daughter fired back at the end of her remarks on childhood obesity and protecting children, Yahoo reports:

"I'm particularly proud and grateful for the example that my mother has always set," Clinton said, adding, "It's always better to get caught trying than to never have tried at all."

After finishing her speech about childhood obesity and protecting the needs of children, Clinton took her opportunity at the podium to respond to Bayer's remark. "Vanessa, we may be able to say in this room today that no one's mother is currently president, but someday, someone's will be," she said.
