New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman spent part of his post-Super Bowl summer traveling through Israel, according to the Times of Israel.

"Exploring my heritage is something I started in the past few years and seeing Israel for the first time, really getting a sense of its history and culture—I now truly understand why it’s so special," said Edelman, who considers himself Jewish. His father is Jewish, his mother is not.

It was Edelman's first trip to Israel. He made his support for Israel clear last season when he wore an Israeli flag pin during a game.

Edelman posted a video of his trip, which was organized by Combined Jewish Philanthropies.

Edelman was one of the stars of the Patriots' Super Bowl win, but will be forced to catch passes from the team's backup quarterback to start the 2015 season as Tom Brady was caught cheating by the league and was suspended for four games.
