The Daily Show's official Twitter account wrote Monday that people should "go knock someone up in Texas" to celebrate the Supreme Court's decision to strike down the state's law regulating abortion clinics.

Comedy Central's flagship news satire program has not taken the trouble to hide its left-leaning opinions. That was no different on Monday when it sent out the tweet, which raised eyebrows from even self-avowed pro-choice folks online.

New host Trevor Noah has tried to seize the progressive mantle of media favorite Jon Stewart, although he has not enjoyed nearly the success of his predecessor. Even the show's diehard liberal fans have confessed disappointment since he took over last year.

The Texas abortion law called for clinics to meet the same standards of surgical ambulatory centers and required abortion doctors to maintain admitting privileges at hospitals within 30 miles. Abortion rights advocates said such legislation would have forced most of the abortion clinics in Texas to close.

Update: The show responded to the avalanche of criticism by insisting they were not promoting abortions.
