5 Takeaways from Rachel Ray's Schmoozefest with 2016 Frontrunner Joe Biden

March 31, 2014

Vice President and 2016 frontrunner Joe Biden appeared on the "Rachel Ray Show" via satellite on Monday to discuss the March 31 "deadline" for Obamacare enrollment. The conversation ranged from moisturizers and dating to healthcare and April Fool’s pranks. Here are five takeaways:

1. Joe Biden has "the most glowing, perfect skin of any person" Rachel Ray has ever seen.

Biden said that, on the advice his wife, Dr. Jill Biden,* he has been using a facial moisturizer (Clinique for men, SPF 20) for about five years. "She was worried about my face, so I do whatever [Dr.] Jill tells me," the vice president said.

2. Dr. Jill Biden rejected Joe’s marriage proposals four times before saying yes.

Rachel Ray asked the veep what he did, apart from being a "very good-looking guy," to convince his wife to marry him. It turns out it wasn’t so easy.

"I’ll tell you the honest-to-God truth," Biden said. "I asked [Dr.] Jill to marry me five times. Literally five times."

On the fifth attempt, Biden said: "[Dr.] Jill, my Irish pride has gotten ahold of me. This is the last time I'm going to ask you. You don't have to tell me when you will marry me, but if you will marry me. She said yes."

And to this day, Dr. Biden still plays hard to get. "She makes me chase," Joe said.

3. Dr. Jill Biden is a prankster.

With April Fool’s Day approaching, Joe Biden isn’t worried about the pranksters at the White House. He’s worried about "what in the hell is [Dr.] Jill going to do this time?" Apparently, she has made the vice president "feel so stupid" on a number of occasions.

Biden described a particularly zany gag:

One April Fool's Day … we get in Air Force Two and we’re flying. I say, where the hell is [Dr.] Jill? I open up the baggage compartment on top, above, you know? And she jumps out of the compartment! I mean, this is the Second Lady of the United States of America jumping out of the overhead baggage compartment.

4. The White House limits Biden’s access to television(?)

In response to Rachel Ray’s question about the proliferation of television shows about the U.S. government, Biden hinted that his access to television was limited, and that he wasn’t too happy about it.

"I get to see them every once in a while," he said. "That sounds ridiculous, I don't get to see much television."

5. Sign up for health insurance right now on HealthCare.gov before it’s too late!

Or don’t, because the website is down.
