President Joe Biden has long dismissed any notion that he was involved in his son Hunter's business dealings. In an interview with Axios in 2019, Biden declared, "There is not one single bit of evidence" of impropriety in Hunter Biden's lucrative gig on the board of a Ukrainian gas company while his father was vice president and overseeing policy toward Ukraine.
"I have never discussed with my son or my brother or anyone else anything having to do with their business, period," Biden said in August 2019.
Joe Biden's defense has faced scrutiny in recent weeks, however, as House Republicans have uncovered evidence suggesting he coordinated with Hunter Biden on his overseas business. Devon Archer, the first son’s former best friend, is expected to testify in Congress next week that then-vice president Joe Biden was on speakerphone in meetings with Hunter Biden's overseas business partners.
