White House Fires Back at Omarosa: She Was 'Fired Three Times' on 'The Apprentice'

February 8, 2018

White House deputy press secretary Raj Shah slammed Omarosa Manigault Newman, the former White House director of communications for the Office of Public Liaison, during a press briefing on Thursday after she said she was "haunted" by President Donald Trump's tweets.

Manigault Newman, who became a household name after appearing on NBC's "The Apprentice," is currently a contestant on the latest season of "Celebrity Big Brother," where she will open up about her experience at the White House.

In a video excerpt released by the reality television show, Manigault Newman says that she was "haunted " by Trump's tweets and often wondered what he would tweet about next. She adds that she tried to ask Trump about his actions but was attacked by people around the president.

"Should we be worried," co-star Ross Matthews asks Manigault Newman in the clip. "We are worried, but I need you to say, ‘No, it's going to be OK.'"

"No, it's not going to be OK," she responds. "It's not. It's so bad."

CBS News reporter Paula Reid asked Shah for the White House's reaction to Manigault Newman's comments.

Shah, who was filling in for White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, pushed back against Manigault Newman's comments and said that the White House does not take her seriously.

"Omarosa was fired three times on 'The Apprentice,' and this is the fourth time we let her go," Shah said. "She had limited contact with the president while here. She has no contact now."

Manigault Newman served at the White House for almost a year until she resigned from the position in December. Shortly after Manigault Newman's departure, some reports said that White House chief of staff John Kelly fired her and that she had to be escorted out of the building while shouting and cursing. Manigault Newman pushed back against those reports, saying that she "resigned" and did not curse or shout.

"John Kelly and I sat down in the Situation Room, which is a very secure, very quiet room in the White House, and we had a very candid conversation, and I wanted to make the one-year mark that was one of the goals that I set out to and then get back to my life," Manigault Newman said.
