Odierno: We Have 40 Percent of the Required Force for Conflict with North Korea

Army chief of staff Gen. Ray Odierno explained that the troop levels on the Korean peninsula are only approximately 40 percent of the required force in the event of a conflict with North Korea while appearing before the Senate Armed Services Committee Tuesday.

Odierno said that cancelled training due to sequestration is to blame for the lack of recommended forces in South Korea.

Responding to Sen. John McCain's (R., Ariz.) question Odierno also said that in the event of a conflict the North Korean "ability to provide indirect fire and other things would have devastating" damages on the capital of South Korea, Seoul.
