CNN's Wolf Blitzer spent a segment of his show "The Situation Room" on Monday reporting on a strip club performance by Stormy Daniels in Greenville, S.C. over the weekend.
Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, is the porn star whom the Wall Street Journal reported had received $130,000 by then-candidate Donald Trump's personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, to keep silent about a sexual encounter with Trump in 2006. Cohen has said the story is "rumor" and the payment by Trump is "completely false."
On Saturday night, Daniels made her first public appearance since her name resurfaced over the alleged sexual encounter with Trump. She had two performances over the weekend at the Trophy Club strip club in the outskirts of Greenville, South Carolina.
"This was notable, Brian, for what she didn't say as much as what she did say," Blitzer said.
"That's right, Wolf," CNN correspondent Brian Todd said. "Stormy Daniels talked about how she was feeling about all of this new attention, but she refused to talk about the alleged affair."
Later in the segment, Todd showed footage of Daniels spinning around a pole on stage in her bra. There was then footage of the exterior of the strip club with a sign that said, "Making America Horny Again."
The owner of the strip club wouldn't tell CNN how much he paid Daniels or how much he made off of her appearances, but he said that he booked her to perform immediately after he read reports about the alleged affair.
"There's no hustle going on here tonight. Everybody can come see the young lady that's in the news," said the Trophy Club's owner Jay Levy.
"CNN is told Daniels could be booked at other adult clubs around the country in the coming months. Daniels made a quick getaway after her performance and would not talk to journalists about her alleged sexual encounter with Trump reported by In Touch magazine and the Wall Street Journal," Todd reported.
"But she was quoted as saying her life since the story broke has been stressful and amusing," Todd added.
CNN's coverage of Daniels contrasts sharply with how host Brooke Baldwin reacted to sports commentator Clay Travis telling CNN viewers that he "believes only in two things completely: the First Amendment and boobs." Baldwin called those remarks "entirely inappropriate."
