Liberal comedian Chelsea Handler announced Wednesday she is ending her Netflix talk show in order to devote time to becoming a "more knowledgeable and engaged citizen."

Handler, who wept over the defeat of Hillary Clinton and did not follow through on a promise to leave the country upon Donald Trump's victory, tweeted out a statement stating she had been "galvanized" by the presidential election and the "countless events that have unfolded" since.

"From the national level down to the grassroots, it's clear our decisions at the ballot box next year will mark a defining moment for our nation," Handler wrote. "For these reasons, I've decided not to return for another season of Chelsea, and instead devote as much time as I can to becoming a more knowledgeable and engaged citizen and to focus on projects that have significance to me."

The show will end after two seasons. The Hollywood Reporter indicated the show had been canceled. It received lackluster reviews when it initially launched as a shorter, thrice-weekly program; it then became an hour-long program airing Fridays.

Handler also stated she wanted to become "better informed."

During the Trump administration, Handler has called on generals to perform a military coup against the president, made light of his brother's death, and bragged about telling Ivanka Trump "I can't even with you."

She also once temporarily rendered Dan Rather speechless with a statement so unfunny about syphilis that awkward silence ensued.
