President Donald Trump tweeted Thursday that any DACA recipients concerned over the program's cancellation have "nothing to worry about" during the next six months, saying "no action!"

"For all of those (DACA) that are concerned about your status during the 6 month period, you have nothing to worry about - No action!" he tweeted.

Trump rescinded the Obama-era program this week and announced a six-month delay for Congress to pass legislation on the matter.

"In effect, I am not going to just cut DACA off, but rather provide a window of opportunity for Congress to finally act," Trump said in a statement.

Short for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, DACA was created by President Barack Obama in 2012 through executive order to shield eligible, young illegal immigrants from deportation. They are known as "Dreamers."

Trump said Tuesday that he would "revisit this issue" if Congress failed to "legalize DACA" by March.

Democratic leaders savaged Trump over the cancellation, with Obama, former Vice President Joe Biden and others calling the decision "cruel." For his part, Trump has called the dreamers "absolutely incredible kids."
