MSNBC Gets GOP Congressman's Name Wrong for Entire Interview

July 28, 2017

Throughout an entire eight-minute interview on Friday, MSNBC hosts and the show's chyron misidentified the Republican congressman who they were speaking with.

"Republican Congressman Mike Kelly of Pennsylvania is live on Capitol Hill," host Stephanie Ruhle said to kick off the interview.

The chyron likewise identified the congressman as "Rep. Mike Kelly, (R) Pennsylvania, Ways and Means Committee."

In fact, the hosts were speaking with Republican Louisiana Rep. Mike Johnson, who either did not hear the the mistake or was too polite to point out the error.

After the show went to break, MSNBC issued an apology.

"I just want to issue a quick correction here. We misidentified Representative Mike Johnson of Louisiana a few minutes ago ... so sorry about that, congressman," co-host Ali Velshi said.

Amusingly, Ruhle messed up again while correcting herself.

"Republican congressman from the state of Illiana," she began before laughing.

"It's been a long night," Velshi joked.
