Scarborough: 'What Are We to Assume if Not the Worst' About Second Putin Meeting

July 19, 2017

MSNBC's "Morning Joe" host Joe Scarborough said Wednesday morning that everyone could "safely assume the worst" of President Donald Trump's second meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The White House confirmed reports on Tuesday that Trump and Putin had a previously undisclosed conversation over dinner with other world leaders at the G-20 summit in Hamburg, Germany. Scarborough wasted no time before castigating Trump's conversation with Putin, Mediaite reported.

"Because of what Donald Trump has done in the past, reporters, foreign policy analysts, and our allies can safely assume the worst," Scarborough said. "They can safely assume the worst of Donald Trump. They can safely assume the worst of President Putin."

Scarborough mentioned that assumptions of foul play could be inferred because Trump's last meeting with Russians was centered around how he was going to fire former FBI Director James Comey.

"What are we to assume, if not the worst?" Scarborough said.

Later in the segment, Scarborough responded to Trump's tweet lambasting the media for making his meeting with Putin appear "sinister." The MSNBC host said that Trump's past actions were what made the meeting look sinister.
