Rep. David Kustoff (R., Tenn.) was allegedly almost run off a road by a woman who was mad at him for his vote to repeal Obamacare.
Wendi L. Wright, 35, has been arrested for Monday's incident in Weakley County, Tenn., BuzzFeed News reports. She was charged with felony reckless endangerment. Wright posted a $1,000 bond, was released, and will have to appear in court next week for her arraignment.
Wright confronted Kustoff after he finished a meeting with the dean of agriculture at the University of Tennessee at Martin. Wright began to follow Kustoff's car after she tried to confront him on campus and placed them "in fear of being forced off" the road.
As Kustoff pulled into a driveway, Wright began to scream and strike the windows on Kustoff's car and even reached inside the vehicle. Inside the car with Kustoff was an aide and a driver. Wright began to yell and could hardly be understood, but witnesses saw her and called police, according to BuzzFeed.
[Sgt. Marty] Plunk said there was a "lot of cursing" according to eyewitnesses who "couldn't understand a lot of what she was saying."
"I've been led to believe she was upset over a vote he had cast involving health care," Plunk said.
Kustoff voted for the bill to repeal and replace Obamacare in the House on May 4.
"I voted for the American Health Care Act because our current health care system is failing Tennesseans," Kustoff said in a statement after his vote. "We promised the American people we would repeal and replace Obamacare, and today, the House voted to keep our word and provide relief."
Wright left the scene before police arrived, but was found on Facebook posting about the incident. When she refused to cooperate with authorities, police arrested her.
