New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D.) received a majority of his 2016 income from his low-selling book, All Things Possible: Setbacks and Success in Politics and Life, that was released in October of 2014.
Cuomo and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio both released their tax returns on Tuesday, and some were surprised to see that Cuomo was still making money from an unpopular book, the New York Post reported.
The New York governor raked in a total of $417,748 last year, and $218,100 came from Cuomo's 553-page book that only sold 3,200 copies, according to the tracking company NPD BookScan.
The book was initially priced at $29.99, and is now available as a hardcover for $13.05 and $9.99 for Kindle, according to Amazon. Customer reviews on the site show the book only received 2.9 out of 5 stars.
Cuomo's 2013 and 2014 taxes revealed the governor collected $565,000 in advances and other payments from his political book, but he did not report an income from the work in 2015.
"This [latest] payment was contractual and per the agreement with the publisher [HarperCollins]," Dani Lever, Cuomo's spokesperson, told the Post.
Cuomo earns $170,000 annually as the governor of New York. He received a total of $783,000 from his book.
