Carol Costello Attempts to Dismiss Samaritan's Purse's Operations in Syria as Impossible

December 13, 2016

CNN' Carol Costello attempted to dismiss the operations of Samaritan's Purse in Syria while talking with its president, the Rev. Franklin Graham on Tuesday.

Costello and Graham discussed the group's extensive efforts in the Middle East to aid civilians who have been caught in the middle of the conflicts in Iraq and Syria.

Graham brought with him a shoebox package that contained a doll that his aid group, Samaritan's Purse, is collecting to send to children around the world, including to children in Iraq and Syria. Graham said that he's doing it because he wants, "the children of the world to know that God loves them."

Costello challenged Graham on how he can tell children in Syria this as they've been living in a terrible situation.

"That's right and that's why I want the children when we give these gifts to kids like that, that are coming out of Mosul, that are coming out of Aleppo, I want them to know that they aren't forgotten, that God loves them, because these are kids that have lived in horror, they've lived in Hell," Graham said. "They have experienced and seen things that we would never dream of and it's important that we reach out to these children and tell them that God loves them and we love them."

Costello then reminded Graham of opposition to bringing refugees from the Middle East to the United States. Graham was quick to state what he would do.

"Well, we go to them and we help them there," Graham answered. "That's what we do."

"It's very hard to get into Syria right now or anywhere near Aleppo," Costello said.

Graham said that Samaritan's Purse already has people there and that they can access Syria. He also said that most Syrians want to stay in Syria, so he wants to focus on rebuilding there similar to how Europe was rebuilt in the wake of World War II.

The shoebox package that Graham brought was put together by volunteers. Graham also discussed a hospital that Samaritan's Purse is building in Aleppo and plans to have operational by Christmas.
