Former MSNBC host Alex Wagner will be the new Saturday co-host of CBS This Morning and serve as a correspondent for the news network, Variety reported Wednesday.
Wagner will be replacing Vinita Nair at CBS, who is leaving the network. Wagner's first show will be on Nov. 19. She has been contributing to CBS for the past several months.
"I couldn't be more honored or more excited to join the CBS family," Wagner said in a statement. "I'm greatly looking forward to covering stories from every corner of the news universe, and can't wait to get started on Saturday."
Wagner had hosted the show Now with Alex Wagner on MSNBC until it was canceled last year. The cancellation was part of a larger shift by MSNBC's programming. After her show ended, Wagner became a senior editor at The Atlantic, where she will continue to be a contributing editor.
Wagner is well known for her liberal political views. She said on air in 2013 that the United States should not be holding inmates at the Guantanamo Bay military prison who have committed "no crimes."
"I just think there's some other part of reality, which is we cannot and should not as Americans be jailing people indefinitely who have committed no crimes. That is not what this country stands for," Wagner said at the time on MSNBC.
Wagner has had a few memorable moments on her show, including when she became upset with producers when they cut her off and when she concluded the last episode of her show by saying the word "shit."
